blue notes and hot rhythms: 1927-1930, harrison lp

hi again folks and sorry for the absence, the internet has been incredibly slow, then my turn table stylus needed replacing, etc, plus I've been pretty busy! I will try to post here more regularly than this, though.

This is some more great hot dance stuff from the late 20s, very little information about it though. This has a recording of west end blues made very shortly after louis armstrong's hot five's version of it and that is very interesting to hear, though i seem to remember there being a difference in the order of tracks between that list and my lp that i've posted here.
Here's the track list from worldcat.

tracks
"Louder and funnier ; West End blues ; Missouri squabble ; The man from the South ; Kickin' a hole in the sky (Fred Hall's Jazz Band) -- Me and the man in the moon ; You're the cream in my coffee (the Ambassadors) -- You can't get to heaven that way ; Get happy (Bert Stock and his orchestra) -- Wake up! Chillun, wake up! ; I used to love her in the moonlight (Ipana Troubadours) -- Where the shy little violets grow ; The river and me (Milt Shaw and his Detroiters) -- After you've gone (Julie Wintz and his orchestra)."
here's the link, it is a zip file instead of rar by the way as I thought ip files are a little more accessable.

correction! jack payne and the bbc dance orchestra radio nights fixed track 2

a kind reaer informed me that track 2 on this lp was cut short, very short! I am still mystified as to how that happened and thought my wave file of it was ok, but it wasn't
I have recorded this track again and tagged it correctly, so if you downloaded this album you should replace track 2 with this

jazz museum hot dance bands of the 20s, vol. 1, 1926-1930

This album is really great, nice enjoyable hot dance band recordings in good sound quality, one of those I would recommend for people just getting into this music. There's not a track I don't like on here.  took off the high frequency hiss and the loud pops, there were uite a few of those and they were louder than the music itself, the transfers were a little dull sounding but they still sound good, I've not altered the sound of them.

west coast jazz vol. 2, 1925 to 1931

This is a fantastic lp of very rare recordings but it is quite hissy and the transfers are muddy or some of them, i'd say for collectors oly if the music wasn't so great! I'm guessing most of this is by white bands. We have the first sides recorded by Fred Elizalde here before he came to england and the last track seems to be from a recording for cinima cues or something but features a great small band with piano backing a bit of an annette hanshaw sound alike!
tracks are

Charleston Charley (Wilshire Dance Orchestra) --
Cheatin' on me (Eddie Frazier and his Plantation Orchestra) --
Everything is hotsy totsy now (Eddie Frazier and his Plantation Orchestra) --
Milenburg joys (Carlyle Stevenson's El Patio Orchestra) --
That certain feeling (Fred Elizalde's Cinderella Roof Orchestra) --
Boneyard shuffle (Fred Elizalde's Cinderella Roof Orchestra) --
Wabash blues (Fred Elizalde's Cinderella Roof Orchestra) --
Sincerely I do (Tom Gerunovitch and his Roof Garden Orchestra) --
I'm telling you (Tom Gerunovitch and his Roof Garden Orchestra) --
I found you out when I found you in (Tom Gerunovitch and his Roof Garden Orchestra) --
Alabama stomp (Jack Danford and his Ben Franklin Hotel Orchestra) --
On the Alamo (Jack Danford and His Ben Franklin Hotel Orchestra) --
Tio san (Claude Sweeten and his R.K. Olians) --
On the Alamo (Claude Sweeten and his R.K. Olians) --
Fool me some more (Mezzanine Melodies).

welcome!

this blog is deddicated to out of print lps. No cd reissues will be up here as most of the time these are out there to buy. I will sometimes post reviews or recommendations for cds with links to buy them.
The albums on this blog were ripped from vinyl lps by me personally unless otherwise specified. I have reduced the noise on a few but only very litely if at all. The music here is mosty from the 1920 to 1940 period, perhaps some will be from a later date but i doubt there will be many of those.
