elsie carlisle: she's the talk of the town

Sorry for not posting in quite some time, I do intend to post more regularly from now however as I am slowly but surely going through and digitising my lps of this music.
Here's an album of songs by one of britain's most popular female vocalists in the early 30s, quite a lot of these tracks were recorded with the Ambrose orchestra.

  1. Hi, I just wanted to write and say thanks for the introduction to Ms Carlisle. Being from Hillsborough, NC USA, I didn't know about her, although she does remind me of Annette Hanshaw in the sweet, simple delivery. You must know of archive.org and the vast trove of stuff there, including a great sample of Annette.
    I found two nice "talkies/soundies" on British Pathe. Great to see Elsie in action, and the 1931 she's a little more unpolished, while '33 finds her more urbane and at ease, even up and down the staircase.

    A more natural and slick voice from Annette, but hey, both ladies are the cat's pajamas for me.
